Ever since it began in 1995, the Essence Festival has been one of the largest music festivals in the country dedicated to hip-hop and R&B, filling up a football stadium year in and year out with artists ranging from Beyoncé and Prince to Janet Jackson and Kanye West.
The New Orleans event has again impressed with its 2015 lineup, announced today (Feb. 18) and set to feature rapper of the moment (don’t tell Drake) Kendrick Lamar and soul queen Mary J. Blige in co-headlining roles. Going down the lineup, fans will also see Erykah Badu, Common, SZA, Floetry, India.Arie, Esperanza Spalding, Trombone Shorty, Mystikal, Slick Rick, and many more at the event.
For a complete look at the announced lineup (this is only the first round, and should get even more impressive before the July 2-5 event), check out the website here.
