He said so during a Radio.com interview where he was talking about his new song, “Back Together,” which he worked on with Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, who also worked on “I Can’t Feel My Face.”
“The great thing about Max, and Savan and that whole family,” he said, “[is] they just make great, catchy songs with great production. Their sound has evolved through the years also. Like the song they have with the Weeknd, ‘I Can’t Feel My Face,’ it’s my favorite song of the summer. I’m very lucky and blessed that they even took the time to work with me this time around.”
He says that the song sort of fit the theme of where he is in his life at the moment. “The writing of of ‘Back Together’ was with Savan and Max Martin, I met with them in the fall of 2014, and Savan played me a few records and the one I connected with the most and enjoyed the most was ‘Back Together.’ Just… the theme of ‘Back Together’ was what I was going through at the time, getting myself together, putting myself back together. It just seemed like a great, catchy, summer record.”
But the song needed one other element, which is how he ended up reuniting with Nicki Minaj. “When the record was done, I felt that like there was something that could just give it a little more edge, a little more spice, and Nicki’s as spicy as it gets, so it worked out perfectly.”
Perhaps now Thicke can mediate a truce between his duet partner Minaj and his former twerking partner from the 2013 MTV VMAs, Miley Cyrus, now that it looks like the two of them are having a spat.
