Swizz Beatz Reveals Secret Message from Barack Obama, Plays KRS One Snippet

By Radio.com Staff

Swizz Beatz stopped by Play. It’s Rap Radar Podcast to discuss his “No Commissions” art fair, play a snippet of his KRS-One collabo, and to paint a picture of his meeting with President Barack Obama.

Swizz Beatz told RRP hosts Elliot Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller the story behind an image that showed President Obama warmly embracing the Ruff Ryder producer and apparently whispering something in his ear.

“First of all, I wasn’t even supposed to go to the White House,” he said, explaining that he was duty-bound to attend the 2013 inauguration as Alicia Keys‘ husband.

“So we’re at the inauguration and we taking pictures,” he recalls. “Obama whispers in my ear, ‘You know you’re going to DJ at my party tonight.’ I was like, ‘I didn’t know I was DJing the party tonight, I was supposed to go back tonight.'”

But the president persisted. “You ain’t gonna turn the president down, are you?”

When Swizz said he’d do the party and offered to give his info, the president told him his “assistant is going to reach out.”

“As I check my phone all the information in my phone already,” Swizz said. “When I get to the party he looks at me like, ‘You’ve made it.’ It was movie s—. He said ‘I hope you gonna kill it.'”

When Swizz replied that he had everything under control and explained that he’s a “real DJ” with hits under his belt, the president responded:

“He said, ‘I know who you are, Mr. On-To-the-Next-One, Get-Me-Bodied.’ That’s what he was whispering in my ear. He said, ‘I know who’s in this house.'”

Despite the president’s references Swizz-produced hits for Beyoncé (“Get Me Bodied”) and Jay Z (“On to the Next One”) Swizz said he didn’t play those songs all night.

“We was just dancing to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye and doing the Bus Stop,” Siwzz said.

Aside from his time with the president, Swizz also played a snippet of his KRS-One collabo record wherein Kris raps: “Going up against the cops, I ain’t wearing no vest.”

Find out more about the KRS-Swizz connection and his reason for starting his artist-friendly “No Commissions” fair at Art Basel festival that will allow artists a space to sell their art and not have to pay a percentage for sales.
