Blake Lively stranded on a craggy piece of reef while being taunted by a great white shark — that’s the gist of Sony’s newest thriller, ‘The Shallows.’
On first glance, there is some small, petty satisfaction derived in watching the culture blogger go from crafting tinseled apples to being shark bait, but that’s just our inner cyber bullies talking.
The movie promises to be a tense, self-reflective, survival thriller. The sweeping camera angles, Lively’s ragged breath, bloody leg and proximity to shore ring like a frustrated dinner bell to both our existential tendencies and our shark loving imaginations.
What a movie to hit a surf town on the cusp of summer.
Fifty bucks says she swims for it.
