Grace VanderWaal brought her hypnotizing warble and ukulele skills to the America’s Got Talent finale stage last night, and the crowd, the judges, the internet, they all lost it. Bae slayed.
Performing an original track called Clay — yes the kid writes, sings and plays instrumental on her tracks: mind-blowing — VanderWaal had the judges on their feet before the song even ended. Did we mention that she’s socially conscious in her song writing? The song is about bullying.
“You’re words don’t hurt me, I will be okay. Cause your punches and your names, all your jokes and stupid games. Watch them go right through me, ’cause they mean nothing to me. I’m not trying to change my shape, ’cause baby I’m not clay”
Early in the season, the judges dubbed the 12-year old performer the next Taylor Swift. We’ve yet to hear an angsty breakup song from the tween, but they might just be right.
